Merging Multiple JIRA Production Servers
We used the Configuration Manager plugin to merge multiple legacy Jira production servers into a single consolidation server. As part of this effort over 60 project configurations containing over 50,000 issues were exported from the legacy Jira instances and imported into the consolidation server using the Configuration Manager plugin.
Even with the Configuration Manager plugin the effort was manually intensive. However, the Configuration Manager plugin saved us man weeks of effort. It helped us organize the consolidation effort, identify and eliminate configuration conflicts in a test environment and minimize downtime on our production servers during the actual migration.
With large consolidations the plugin is well worth the investment in terms of direct labor saved during the consolidation, reduction of disruption to the production system during consolidation and reduction in future Jira licensing costs.
